A U.S-based Nigerian man who works in the Washington DC police department has taken to social media to share his tale of harassment by operatives of the Nigeria Police Force.

The Nigerian-American identified simply as Tayo is presently in Nigeria for the festive season and in just four days after his arrival, he claims has already experienced what an average Nigerian youth go through every day in the hands of the police officers.

Tweeting via his handle @wearethe2030, he said he was in a cab along Allen Avenue in Ikeja area of Lagos heading back to his hotel, on that road he said his cab was stopped twice by policemen who profiled him as a criminal because of his looks.

Well, Tayo rocks dreads which is a major turnoff for the Nigeria police officers and one of the reasons why they hunt for young Nigerians.

He shared photos of himself in police uniform and wrote:

“4 days in Nigeria & I have already been profiled as a criminal by the Nigeria police force. They profile people based on looks. Male with dreads, braids and so on. I work for the Washington DC as a police officer and I have braids. Enough of the profiling! @TunjiDisu1 @aleeygiwa”

Explaining how it happened, he added:

“Riding back to my hotel on Toyin street, Allen, Ikeja, with Taxify, and the police had stopped me twice on the same road, ordered me to step out of the vehicle asking what I do for a living. My police credentials saved me from being a victim.”
