President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has announced that he will soon send a new minimum wage bill to the National Assembly. This announcement was made during his Democracy Day broadcast on Wednesday.

Tinubu emphasized that his government has chosen a cooperative approach with Organized Labour, unlike what a dictatorship might have done.

“We have negotiated in good faith and open arms with organized labor on a national minimum wage,” he said. “We will soon send our executive bill to the National Assembly to enshrine what has been agreed upon in the next five years or less.”

The announcement follows the submission of the National Minimum Wage Committee’s report to the President on Monday.

In the report, various proposals were made: the Federal Government suggested a minimum wage of N62,000, Organized Labour proposed N250,000, while Governors and the Organized Private Sector proposed N57,000 and N62,000, respectively.
