Ex-Manchester United boss, Jose Mourinho, has accepted a one-year suspended sentence after reaching a guilty plea for tax fraud in Spain.
Mourinho’s one-year prison sentence will, however, be exchanged for a fine of €182,500 (£160,160). That will be added to a separate fine of €2m.
Mourinho will not have to serve time after admitting he defrauded Spain authorities in 2011 and 2012. Sentences for two years or less for first-time offenders can be suspended in Spain, Daily Mail reports.
56 years old appeared before a judge in a Madrid court on Tuesday to confirm the plea agreement he had reached with prosecutors.
Mourinho has won 25 major honours, making him one of the most successful managers of all time.
The news comes less than two months after Mourinho was sacked from his job as Manchester United manager.
In October 2010, Mourinho was ranked number nine on the list of Most Influential Men published by AskMen.com. In December 2011, he was named “Rockstar of the Year” by the Spanish Rolling Stone magazine
