A former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party, Diran Odeyemi, has predicted that ex-Vice President Atiku Abubakar may leave the African Democratic Congress if former President Goodluck Jonathan decides to join the party.

Odeyemi made the remark on Tuesday during an appearance on Politics HQ, a programme aired on News Central TV, where he cautioned that the ADC could become a political dead end for any presidential aspirant currently aligning with Atiku.

According to Odeyemi, “ADC’s alignment with Atiku Abubakar makes it a political trap for presidential aspirants.

“ADC is Atiku’s Disciples Congress; he moved his people to that place. If any presidential hopeful joins the ADC today, that would be the end of his dealings with the ADC.

“We don’t have to be sentimental about it, if Atiku was so smart to pin down Obi as his vice-presidential candidate, he would have been the president today.

“If he is the right person that would make the decision that this is what I stand for, Ayu would have been removed according to the demands of the G-5.

“I’m not sure the people who are strategizing for him studied the situation before he embarks on any decision.

“The way I want to see it now is if Jonathan will come to ADC, and if Jonathan comes, Atiku will leave ADC, just take that.”

Odeyemi’s comments come amid ongoing speculation over possible alignments ahead of the 2027 general elections, with the ADC being positioned by some stakeholders as a potential third-force platform.
