The Pan Yoruba socio-cultural organization, Afenifere, has called on Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq of Kwara state to key into the AMOTEKUN security project being canvassed in all the Yoruba states of the country.

The pan Yoruba group made the call after a meeting of its Kwara state chapter held in Ilorin at the weekend.

In a statement signed by the chairman and PRO of the Kwara state chapter of the pan organization, Hon. Lekan Alabi and Comrade Adeleye Adebayo, respectively, in Ilorin on Wednesday, the group said that “apart from the cultural and linguistic affinity of Kwara state with the South-West states, the ravaging herdsmen have caged many of our communities and subjected them to avoidable trauma, just as it was being done to our kits and kins in the South West Yoruba states.

“Our farms are being ravaged with impunity by the herdsmen and we have become prisoners in our land.

“In the light of above, we call on Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq to key in into the AMOTEKUN security project as proposed by the Yoruba states. This will prevent unnecessary loss of lives, loss of property and anguish that herdsmen/community clashes could bring”.

The group, which condemned reported abduction of a member of the NURTW (Maraba Garage Chapter, Ilorin), Mallam Taofeeq Ali, said to have been kidnapped in Ibi village near Kainji in Niger state, said that “as it happened in Niger state, so it happened in nearby Kogi state. Therefore, we in Kwara state must not sleep with our eyes closed. A stitch in time saves nine”.

It would be recalled that the six South-West states have recently launched their own security outfit code-named “Operation Amotekun.”
