Jigawa to relocate 194 medical students from Sudan to Cyprus, India

The Jigawa State Government has finalized plans to transfer 194 medical students, who were repatriated from Sudan to Cyprus and India to resume their studies in response to the upheaval caused by the Civil War in Sudan,

Governor Malam Umar Namadi bid the students farewell at the government house, expressing relief at their safe return following the outbreak of civil unrest in Sudan. 

Governor Namadi highlighted the collaborative efforts between the state and federal governments in facilitating the safe evacuation of the students back to Nigeria.

“Since their repatriation, the government has been diligently working to secure admissions for the students in reputable universities abroad,” Governor Namadi remarked. 

“Today, the State Ministry of Higher Education has successfully secured admission for 184 students at Cyprus University and 10 at an Indian University, with all necessary arrangements completed for their departure on 5th February.”

Dr. Isa Yusuf Chamo, the State Commissioner for Higher Education, disclosed that the government allocated ₦2.6 billion for admission, transportation, registration, and other logistical requirements for the students. 

He assured that the government would continue to support the students under the scholarship program, emphasizing equal opportunities for students based on merit.

“The commitment of the state government to providing quality education remains unwavering,” reiterated the Commissioner, underscoring the government’s dedication to enhancing educational access regardless of social or economic backgrounds.

The students and their parents expressed gratitude to Governor Namadi and his administration for their steadfast efforts in elevating the status of Jigawa State and pledged full support towards achieving collective aspirations.
