Jigawa PDP slams budget ranking, demands end to ghost workers

The Peoples Democratic Party in Jigawa State has urged Governor Umar Namadi to review the state’s payroll system and eliminate ghost workers, saying the funds saved could be redirected to vital development projects.

PDP state chairman, Hon. Babandi Ibrahim Gumel, made the call in a statement on his Facebook page while reacting to a recent report by BudgIT that ranked Jigawa lowest in budget performance among Nigeria’s 36 states.

According to Gumel, “we the Jigawa State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party express our deep concern over the recently released BudgIT report, which ranked our dear state lowest in budget performance.”

He stressed that the findings showed poor capital budget implementation, with health, education, and infrastructure receiving far less than was allocated.

“The revelation is not only disappointing but a wake-up call for the development of the state,” Gumel added.

The PDP chairman advised the All Progressives Congress administration to focus on capital projects that directly impact citizens, warning that continued fiscal indiscipline would stall growth.

“We call on the Governor to act swiftly and decisively to restore fiscal discipline, rebuild public trust, and reposition our state for inclusive growth,” he said.

The party insisted that cleaning up the payroll system and blocking leakages remained key steps toward improving Jigawa’s budget performance.
