The Gwaram Local Government Council in Jigawa State has bought 100 bundles of fabric for 600 male orphans to celebrate the upcoming Sallah festival.
The council chairman, Prof. Abdurrahman Lawan, said the initiative aims to ensure the orphans enjoy the festivities like others in the community.
Lawan, who also serves as the Jigawa State Chairman of the Association of Chairmen of Local Government of Nigeria, made the announcement on Sunday after meeting with traditional rulers in the area.
According to him, 100 orphans were selected from each district within the local government to benefit from the donation. He added that the council has set aside N600,000 to pay for sewing the clothes.
“This is part of our effort to support the welfare of orphans and make sure they have a memorable Sallah celebration,” Lawan stated.
In addition to providing clothes for male orphans, he mentioned that the council also gave garments to orphaned girls across the area.
“Our council has also provided 36 bags of pasta, four sacks of millet, and four sacks of maize to the 76 village heads in the local government,” he added.
Speaking on the initiative, the District Head of Fagam (Katikan Dutse), Auwal Adamu, commended the council’s leadership for prioritizing the needs of orphans.
“This donation aims to ease food shortages and promote economic support within the community,” Adamu said.
The distribution of food items and clothing, according to the council, reflects their dedication to caring for the most vulnerable members of the community.
