Manchester City sign Begium star Jeremy Doku

Manchester City have completed the high-profile signing of winger Jeremy Doku from French club Rennes for a reported €65 million.

The Premier League champions announced that the 21-year-old Belgian international has signed a five-year contract to remain at the Etihad Stadium until 2028.

Doku is expected to replace departing veteran Riyad Mahrez, who recently left City for Saudi Arabian side Al-Ahli.

The deal marks City’s third major signing of the summer transfer window. They previously added midfielder Mateo Kovacic from Chelsea and defender Josko Gvardiol from RB Leipzig.

Doku joined Rennes from RSC Anderlecht in 2020 in a €26 million deal. He went on to make 92 appearances for the Ligue 1 club.

The talented young winger had drawn interest from several Premier League teams this summer before opting for City. West Ham United had a bid rejected earlier this month.

Man City are the best team in world football, so joining them is very special,” Doku told the club’s website. “Working with Pep (Guardiola) and his staff, and playing alongside these world-class players, will make me a much better player. I feel sure of that.”

With the addition of Doku, City have now spent over €163 million this summer as they look to defend their Premier League title.
