Japanese surgeon ready to redeem his financial pledge to Dream Team, SEE how much he is giving Mikel
Barely one day before Nigeria’s Olympic football team, Dream Team VI, take on Honduras in the bronze medal match at the ongoing Rio 2016 Olympics, Japanese plastic surgeon Katsuya Takasu who promised the team financial bonus if they win medal at the Games is ready to redeem his pledge.
According to the letter Mr Takasu sent to the Japanese embassy in Nigeria on Thursday, he is set to reward the coach Samson Siasia tutored side after their exploits so far in Rio.
Below is a copy of the letter that emerged on the internet on Friday:
According to the letter, the surgeon is to donate cheques of US$200,000 to coach Siasia and US$190,000 to Mikel John Obi, who is the captain of the team, as a reward for Dream Team VI performance.
WuzupNaija recalls that Mr Takasu had promised to donate a bonus of $30,000 each if they win gold, $20,000 should they win a silver medal and $10,000 for a bronze medal.
“I read about the financial problems affecting the team and I felt the need to make a big contribution,” Takasu said according to BBC Sport.
“I am not doing this for media attention but to motivate a team with an indomitable spirit. I fell in love with the Nigerian team because despite all these problems they are in the quarter-finals of the Olympics.
“Whether they win or not, I will still donate something to help alleviate the challenges in paying their bonuses and allowances.”
As at the time of writing this report, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has not said anything about the matter.
The Dream Team VI will play Honduras on Saturday.
