The Lagos State Peoples Democratic Party governorship candidate in the 2023 poll, Dr Abdul-Azeez Adediran, a.k.a. Jandor, has sought the transfer of his appeal against the verdict of the Lagos State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal to Abuja.

The tribunal had dismissed Adediran’s petition and upheld the re-election of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu in the March 18 governorship election.

Adediran is challenging the verdict at the Lagos Division of the Court of Appeal. However, in a statement signed by the Head of his media and communication team, Mr Ogunleye, on Monday in Lagos, Adediran prayed the Court of Appeal president to transfer the case to Abuja.

“Adediran, the first petitioner in the Appeal case numbered CA/L/EP/GOV/29/2023, hereby requests for the transfer from Lagos Division to Abuja Division of the Court of Appeal for fairness, objectivity,’’ he said.

Adediran said that his request was in line with a directive of the Chief Justice of the Court of Appeal, Dongban-Mensem, allowing transfer of some appeals. He noted that Dongban-Mensem allowed transfer of appeals in 17 states in the southern Nigeria to the Lagos Division of the Court of Appeal.

Adediran prayed for transfer of his appeal to the Abuja Division of the Court of Appeal, saying that this would “safeguard neutrality, equity and discourage interference.”
