Hollywood star Jamie Foxx moved audiences to tears at the 2025 BET Awards as he emotionally shared his near-death experience after suffering a stroke two years ago.
The 57-year-old actor, who received a special honor at Sunday’s ceremony in Los Angeles, fought back tears while recalling his health crisis that left him in a coma for 20 days in April 2023.
“I cannot even begin to express the love that I feel from everybody out there,” Foxx said during his acceptance speech at the Peacock Theater. “I don’t know why I went through what I went through, but I know my second chance – I’m not gonna turn down.”
The emotional moment came after a star-studded tribute featuring performances by Jennifer Hudson, Ludacris, T-Pain and others celebrating Foxx’s legendary career in music and film.
Foxx’s public appearance marked a triumphant return after his life-threatening brain bleed that required months of rehabilitation. Fans and fellow celebrities cheered as the Oscar winner walked confidently across the stage, showing no visible signs of impairment.
The BET Awards, hosted by comedian Kevin Hart, turned into an emotional celebration of survival as Foxx’s speech highlighted the importance of second chances. Social media erupted with support for the actor, with many praising his courage in openly discussing his health struggles.
Medical experts say Foxx’s remarkable recovery from such a severe stroke serves as inspiration for survivors worldwide. The entertainer has not disclosed full details about his treatment but recently resumed work on upcoming projects.
