The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board has exposed 19 Computer-Based Test centres involved in fingerprint fraud during the 2025 UTME, with most of them located in Anambra and Imo states.
JAMB Registrar, Professor Ishaq Oloyede, revealed this during the board’s policy meeting with university and polytechnic heads in Abuja on Tuesday.
Anambra had the highest number of affected centres with six, followed by Imo with four. Others were found in Abia, Edo, Kano, Ebonyi, Delta, Kaduna, Rivers and Enugu states.
Oloyede said some impersonators went as far as using albinos for facial image tricks and uploaded fake details from remote locations. He noted these acts were meant to beat JAMB’s biometric checks.
In a related case, the police have dragged two suspects to the Federal High Court in Katsina for impersonation during the UTME held on April 30. Prosecutor Abdussalam Danmaidaki said Bolanwu Emmanuel asked Ibrahim Abdulaziz to sit for the exam on his behalf at Zee Alpha International School, Funtua.
Danmaidaki said Abdulaziz used Emmanuel’s registration number, 2025515278JA, and entered the exam hall pretending to be him.
He said their actions go against sections of the Examination Malpractice Act and are punishable under the laws of Nigeria.
The two men pleaded not guilty. Justice Hussaini Dadan-Garba has adjourned the case till July 18 to allow the prosecution present witnesses.
