The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board has flagged 21 candidates who were recommended for admission in 2023 with fake Interim Joint Matriculation Board results.

The discovery was made by JAMB during its review of admission processes across various institutions.

According to the PUNCH, a policy document obtained in Abuja, revealed that 12 out of the 21 candidates were recommended by Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.

The board expressed concern over the situation, describing the recommendations as “audacious” given that the institutions involved had conducted certificate screenings after registration.

“JAMB discovered that 21 candidates who paraded fake IJMB results were recommended during the 2023 admission. They were not approved,” the document stated.

“Twelve of the recommendations were by ABU, Zaria. Recommendations were possible because certificate screening was done after registration.”

JAMB identified five institutions involved in these irregular recommendations, reiterating the importance of strict adherence to verification procedures.

The board emphasized that all certificates must bear the signature of the head of the issuing institution, such as the Vice-Chancellor, Provost, or Rector.

In response to growing concerns about result falsification, JAMB, in collaboration with the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission and the Federal Ministry of Education, launched the Nigerian Post-Secondary Education Data System verification platform in 2021.

This platform was specifically designed to verify IJMB and JUPEB results, following reports of widespread irregularities.

JAMB stressed that these proactive measures are crucial to preserving the integrity of the examination system in Nigeria.

“These proactive measures, as well as others in the pipeline, are to ensure that the gains recorded in the education sector, especially the examination sub-sector, are not eroded by unscrupulous individuals who do not mean well for Nigeria,” JAMB stated.
