The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board has extended the 2025 admission deadline for public universities from October 31 to November 17, 2025.
In a statement posted on its official X handle on Sunday, JAMB said the decision was taken to give universities more time to complete their admission processes.
The Board explained that the extension followed an appeal from the Association of Vice-Chancellors of Nigerian Universities and the recent accreditation of new programmes by the National Universities Commission.
According to the statement, the AVCNU appealed for an extension due to disruptions caused by a court order that temporarily halted the 2025/2026 admission process. The order was lifted on October 28, 2025.
JAMB added that the NUC’s recent approval of 229 new programmes across 37 universities also required more time for proper integration into the admission schedule.
“In a bid to expand access in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the NUC on October 29 released a list of newly accredited programmes for universities. Admission into these courses is just being scheduled,” the Board said.
JAMB commended universities for their cooperation and efforts toward meeting the earlier deadline but stressed that the new deadline of November 17 is final.
It assured Nigerians that the extension aims to promote fairness and inclusiveness while maintaining a transparent and credible admission process that aligns with national education goals.
