The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board has officially acknowledged errors in the recently released 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination results, following public outcry over alleged irregularities.

Speaking at a press conference held at the JAMB headquarters in Abuja, Registrar Prof. Is-haq Oloyede said the uproar that followed the result release on May 9, 2025, prompted the Board to fast-track its usual post-exam review and conduct an immediate audit.

According to Prof. Oloyede, a technical oversight affecting 157 centres in Lagos and South-East zones (Owerri Zone) caused inaccuracies in some candidates’ results.

“Despite all our internal checks and the multiple testing layers, including mock exams and simulations, errors still occurred,” he said, adding that about 206,610 candidates in Lagos and 173,387 in the South-East were affected.

The glitch was traced to a shuffling error during the deployment of the new item-based testing system in the LAG operational zone (which includes South-West, South-East, Kano, Katsina, and the FCT). Though corrections were made from April 29 onwards, errors in earlier sessions went undetected before the results were published.

Prof. Oloyede noted that while the 2025 UTME had one of the best performances in recent history, with the top scorer earning 374 marks, the highest in over 15 years, the Board remains committed to transparency and quality assurance.

He also highlighted the role of various monitoring committees and experts engaged in JAMB’s processes.

“We regret this avoidable error,” he said. “But we must acknowledge the voices of concern which have driven us to address the issue publicly and swiftly.”

JAMB assured stakeholders that affected candidates would not be disadvantaged, and remedial measures were already being implemented.
