The management of the Joseph Ayo Babalola University, Ikeji Arakeji, Osun State has directed the students of the institution to proceed on a two-week break.
It was gathered that the development is not unconnected with the issue of security of the students of the university, which had led to a peaceful protest by the students on the campus on Monday.
The students of the institution protested against the alleged incessant invasion of female hostels by some unknown men who allegedly, molested them, stole their money, phones, and other belongings.
The management, after a meeting with the representatives of the students promised to address the issue and ensure adequate protection of lives and property of the students.
However, it was learned that one of the intruders again attempted to enter into the female hostels on Wednesday night but was unsuccessful as one of the students who saw him raised the alarm but out of fear, the students reportedly moved out of the hostel to the staff quarters.
One of the female students said the purported intruder had escaped before the men of the Osun State Police Command arrived the scene
She said,
“I heard that he ( intruder) attacked a student, that really made every one of us scared, and we all took our pillows, blankets to cover, water, bags, lamps looking like refugees and we all decided to go to the auditorium and staff quarters, that was how we were locked inside from the outside by our school chaplains
“They also locked the guys ( male students) from the outside. Now, the hostel portals and the guys saw the guy (bandit). The portals now believed that what we are complaining about is not our hallucinations. They said we should go to one hostel which is a more dangerous hostel
“The environment is no longer conducive for learning anymore, right now the library is locked, they said no student should be seen in the college of management sciences, natural sciences, law, humanities and others.”
