Afrobeats singer Iyanya has announced his intention to gift N500,000 to a nurse who was publicly ridiculed by her colleagues for reporting to duty despite an ongoing national strike by health workers.
A video of the nurse being taunted for choosing to work during the strike surfaced online and quickly went viral, drawing mixed reactions.
While some criticized her actions, others praised her dedication to duty.
Among her supporters was Iyanya, who commended her for prioritizing human lives over union action.
“Can someone find her for me, I want to give her 500k. She is not a health care worker for the money but for human lives. Someone find her for me please,” the singer wrote on his social media platform.
When a user questioned the rationale behind rewarding the nurse, suggesting her actions amounted to “bad behavior,” Iyanya pushed back strongly.
“What’s your definition of bad behavior? A nurse decided not to go on strike so she can save lives — being at work is bad behavior to you? She is an essential worker and she deserves some compensation, and the way she was humiliated was wrong. Find her for me, I have 500k for her immediately,” he replied.
Iyanya maintained that the nurse’s commitment to duty in the face of pressure and mockery should be celebrated rather than condemned, and he continues to call on social media users to help identify and locate her so he can fulfill his promise.
