Super Eagles and Real Sociedad forward, Sadiq Umar, has issued a stern warning to cyberbullies following the Super Eagles’ defeat against Ivory Coast in the final of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
Despite not participating in the tournament, Umar revealed that he has become a target of abuse from certain individuals after the game on Sunday.
The Super Eagles midfielder, Alex Iwobi, bore the brunt of online attacks from netizens who held him responsible for the loss against hosts Cote d’Ivoire.
The backlash prompted widespread condemnation of cyberbullying by various stakeholders, including Super Eagles players, the Minister of Sports, and the Nigeria Football Federation.
Taking to his Instagram story, Sadiq Umar issued a direct message, asserting that he is not Alex Iwobi and will not tolerate any form of insult directed towards him.
“I didn’t even play, yet you insult me. Please, I am not Iwobi. I will insult anyone’s parents without hesitation. Yes, I am that fearless Hausa boy. Can you see fear in my eyes?”
“Pushing someone into depression and mental breakdown, yet you expect life to treat you kindly. It will never be better for you! Vagabonds!”
