In commemoration of International Women’s Day, Fatima Bago, the wife of the Governor of Niger State, has pledged the government’s commitment to ensuring women with disabilities have equal access to education and economic opportunities in agriculture.

Fatima made this commitment during an interactive session with women in Minna on Friday. She emphasized the importance of inclusivity and equal opportunities for women, especially those with disabilities.

“As we celebrate International Women’s Day, I want to assure women with disabilities that the government is dedicated to providing you with equal and easy access to education and economic opportunities in agriculture,” stated Fatima Bago during the session.

The women, who had earlier engaged in a walk along major roads in the state capital, expressed the need for the government to play a leadership role in affirmative action for women, particularly those with disabilities.

The theme for this year’s International Women’s Day is ‘Invest in Women: Accelerate Progress,’ highlighting the significance of empowering women for societal advancement. The celebration takes place annually on March 8.

Eulogizing the resilient spirit of Nigerian women, the President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, congratulated women, recognizing them as a “full package” and a special breed. Akpabio praised the daily struggles of Nigerian women, describing them as resilient, industrious, and unwavering.

“The theme of this year’s celebration is apt because no nation succeeds without investing in women, as it is popularly agreed that ‘Train a woman, and you train a nation,'” commented Akpabio through his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Hon. Eseme Eyiboh.
