The Nigerian Economic Summit Group, says opportunities, resources and rewards should be given to anyone who deserves them, irrespective of gender.
Mr Laoye Jaiyeola, the Chief Executive Officer of NESG said this while felicitating with women on occasion of the 2022 International Women’s Day.
According to him, gender equality is a fundamental human right.
Jaiyeola said that gender balance would go a long way in resolving some prevailing societal ills.
He assured Nigerians that the NESG was already observing in-house polices to ensure that gender balance reflected in its work environment.
“I join the rest of the world to felicitate with women of all races and creeds who work from the home front, communities and organisations to build an equitable society we can be proud of.
“This year’s IWD mandates us to take responsibility for a world devoid of bias, stereotypes and discrimination against women.
“In a gender-balanced Nigeria, 6.34 million girls will not be out of school, neither will 36 per cent of women be financially excluded, nor a paltry 20 per cent make up executive teams in the workforce.
“At the NESG, we are appalled by these sobering statistics. This compels us to take practical steps toward improving the narrative and hoping each of us will do likewise.
“Currently, 43.4 per cent of our entire staff are females, and 44.4 per cent have attained managerial level,’’ he said.
According to him, the group is actively working to increase female representation on its board, and to also ensure that its recruitment processes for internal and external stakeholders continued to be gender-neutral.
“We run an organisation where every staff has equal access to opportunities, growth, and support to be the best version of themselves. We remain committed to this noble mandate,’’ Jaiyeola assured.
