The Nigeria Customs Command in Lagos has impounded an Iveco truck carrying 498 cartons of Codeine Cough Syrup of 100 milligrams worth N199.2 million.
Wuzup Naija gathered that the banned drug was intercepted along the Ijebu Ode-Ore road last week. The syrup, which was manufactured in the United Kingdom, had 200 bottles in each carton.
The controller, Federal Operations Unit, Zone A, Lagos, Mohammed Uba, told newsmen that two suspects were arrested and detained in connection to the seizure.
“You will recall that the federal government banned any importation of cough syrup that contains codeine,” Mr Uba said in a Premium Times report.
“The drugs and suspects will be handed over to NAFDAC for further investigation and possible prosecution in a court of competent jurisdiction.
“The fight against drug abuse and illicit drugs is a collective effort and if all hands are on deck, we will make our nation a drug free society.”
