Nigerian singer Kcee has called on fellow musicians to extend more support to the country’s film industry, Nollywood, highlighting the longstanding collaboration between both industries.
In an interview with Hip TV, the “Limpopo” crooner emphasized the need for Nigerian artists to promote Nollywood by featuring actors in music videos, collaborating on projects, and sharing Nigerian films across their social media platforms.
“I think it’s high time we \[artists] support the movie industry,” Kcee said. “For me, Kcee, those who know me know that I don’t watch any other movie apart from Nollywood. I’m so into Nollywood movies. Sometimes, a lot of people laugh at me.”
He cited an example of his personal support for the industry, recalling how he recently allowed a filmmaker to use his track “Cultural Praise” in a movie free of charge. “She can testify. That’s the support,” he said.
Kcee also pointed out that movie stars often promote music by participating in trends and featuring in videos. He believes it’s only fair that musicians reciprocate that energy.
“We always want to have movie stars in our music videos. Some musicians have also been in their movies, but I think we can do more. We need to support them a lot more,” he said. “Randomly, you see them jumping on our projects, and I think it wouldn’t be a crime if we do the same.”
