The Nigerian social media space was abuzz on Tuesday morning following a tweet about a lady who lost her boyfriend, identified as Akin, to another lady after placing a bet on Twitter.

It has become a common trend on Twitter to see ladies post erotic pictures with different captions like “Would you leave your girlfriend for me?” “I can snatch your boyfriend”, “Is you girlfriend as cute as I am?” “I can make your boyfriend mine.”

In one of those related cases, a female Twitter user with the handle @DidenIye posted her picture with a caption

“I can make your boyfriend mine. I can make your girlfriend your ex.”

Another lady with the handle @AnayoAnn replied in the comment section of the tweet and wrote,

“Heheheh…sorry to burst your bubble he doesn’t even notice you exist.”

The duo then placed a bet to test @AnayoAnn’s supposed boyfriend’s commitment and honesty.

@DidenIye asked for the boyfriend’s number, and a few hours after, she took to Twitter again to share her WhatsApp chats with the supposed boyfriend identified as Akintola Akinbode.

She wrote:

“My twitter people Come and see STORY Una too de boast I’m amazed  When I said I can, I CAN who is next”

From the screenshots of the chats she shared on her timeline, the guy Akin was already getting along with the bait.

In one of the chats he declared to the lady.

“I seem to like you already Steph.”

The post has sent Twitter alight as it has evoked series of reactions from many Nigerians, positioning Akin at top spot on the trend list of Twitter in Nigeria.

Meanwhile, the man at the center of the trend, Akin, has come out to defend himself, saying the chat was a game plan between him and the supposed girlfriend.

He noted that the lady who claimed to be his girlfriend is just a female friend who had asked him to pretend as her boyfriend.

In the heat of the reactions the post has generated on social media, Akin has taken to Twitter to clear the air over the claims, saying anyone could have fallen for the trap based on the erotic pictures the lady sent to him via WhatsApp.

He also shared a screenshot of his conversation with the supposed girlfriend where they hatched the plan that he should pretend as her boyfriend.

He wrote:

“So I am Akin & I got dragged today. Although, I am enjoying the bants & clout and probably wouldn’t have said anything about this but I have to because of the innocent friend of mine that was implicated in d whole bants Steph was supposed to cover my friend’s face not mine.

“So how did it start? So @AnayoAnn posted her replies to @dideniye’s tweet on WhatsApp and asked for a boyfriend… I agreed to be her ‘loyal’ boyfriend & with my permission, she gave my number to Steph. Then Steph sent me her pictures and man decided to flip the script

“I mean, who wouldn’t. Those pictures  So I decided to play along to Steph’s trap and formulated a story about an ‘ex’ to beef up the content and who knows, Man might get lucky  The plot got tragic when Steph posted the picture of my friend & I without covering her face

“I didn’t really know about her post till my very angry friend called me and told me about the post. I had to come forward to Steph with the truth and also urge her to use my handle so as to take some of the negative attention from my friend and unto me. Still feel bad

“So abeg, it is a planned bants. I am sorry friend for putting you on blast, it was an error from Steph who was supposed to cover your face and not mine. I am AKIN & I am a good guy most times  So @DidenIye, can I shoot my shot officially now?”
