Veteran Nollywood actor, Richard Mofe-Damijo, popularly known as RMD, has expressed his disapproval of being referred to as a legend in the Nigerian entertainment industry.
In an interview on Curiosity Made Me Ask, hosted by Nigerian skit maker Bea U on YouTube, RMD shared his perspective on the term, revealing that he believes it implies a decline or retirement phase, which he does not identify with.
“I think all those legend thing is a scam. I have my legends like uncle Olu Jacobs, uncle Peter, those are our ancestors, our legends,” he said.
The seasoned actor emphasized that the title of ‘legend’ is better suited to industry veterans like Olu Jacobs and Pete Edochie, who he believes have truly earned the distinction.
“I was still watching him when he was saying Ribena children are healthy children,” he added, referring to Pete Edochie’s longstanding presence in the entertainment space.
“So I don’t subscribe to that, I think it is a scam when they call me legend because they are trying to relegate me to that neighbourhood of retired people or should be nearing retirement. So, no, I don’t subscribe to it,” he concluded.
