Italian goalkeeper, Gigi Buffon, has signed a two-year contract with his boyhood club, Parma, 20 years after leaving the Serie B club in 2001.

According to a statement on Parma’s verified Twitter handle on Thursday, the former Juventus and Paris Saint Germain goalie signed a contract that would run until June 2023.

The 43-year-old icon began his youth career with the club in 1991 before getting a call-up to the senior team in 1995 where he made 168 appearances in six years.

Buffon left Parma in 2001 for Italian giants Juventus, becoming a formidable force in the Seria A but in 2018, he left the Old Lady for a sojourn abroad, by signing a deal with French giant, PSG.

After a season at the French capital, Buffon returned to Turin and spent two more seasons with Juventus where he finished the 2020/21 football season before jumping on the plane back to his roots, where he made his Serie A debut as a 17-year-old.

He won 10 Serie A titles with Juventus, one Ligue 1 title with PSG, and the World Cup with the Italian national team in 2006, amongst others, except the prestigious UEFA Champions League where he came runner-up thrice with Juve in 02/03, 14/15 and 16/17 seasons.

More to come…
