Hamas health officials have reported that at least 90 Palestinians were killed in Israeli airstrikes in Jabalia, northern Gaza.
The attack targeted the Jabalia refugee camp, a long-standing settlement in the region.
The Israeli military has not issued an immediate comment, maintaining that its airstrikes are aimed at what it deems “terrorist infrastructure.”
Jabalia, located in the northern part of Gaza, has been a focal point of the conflict, and Israel had previously issued warnings for residents to evacuate the area.
The recent escalation has intensified global calls for a ceasefire, with the UK, France, and Germany joining the chorus. US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin is expected to meet with Israeli officials today.
At the UN Security Council, the US is reportedly working to temper the language of a new draft resolution calling for an end to hostilities.
The conflict between Israel and Hamas, which started on October 7, has resulted in dire consequences, with the health ministry in Gaza, led by Hamas, reporting over 18,700 casualties and 50,000 injuries in the enclave.
The humanitarian situation in southern Gaza’s Rafah City has escalated, with reports of hungry and desperate Palestinians looting aid trucks to obtain water and food.
The revised death toll stands at nearly 1,140 in Israel, while the Palestinian death toll has reached at least 18,787 since the conflict’s onset on October 7.
The international community continues to call for an immediate cessation of hostilities to address the worsening humanitarian crisis.
