The younger brother of former Ekiti State governor Ayodele Fayose, Isaac Fayose, has criticised the recent ₦39 billion renovation of the Abuja International Conference Centre, describing it as wasteful and self-serving.
In a video shared via his Instagram page, Fayose questioned the rationale behind the extensive renovation project, which was commissioned by President Bola Tinubu and supervised by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
He argued that the project was more about self-promotion than infrastructural development.
“The Abuja ICC was built in 1991 under General Ibrahim Babangida for just ₦240 million, a solid national monument from scratch. In 2025, ₦39 billion is spent not to build a new one, but to renovate. And now it’s renamed Bola Ahmed Tinubu ICC?” he stated.
Fayose expressed frustration over what he called misplaced priorities by the federal government at a time when citizens are facing economic and security challenges. He accused the administration of focusing on personal legacies instead of addressing pressing national issues.
“IBB, the man who built it, never named it after himself. Tinubu renovated and renamed. This says a lot. Nigerians are suffering, but they’re focused on immortalising a name,” he added.
His comments have sparked debate online, with many Nigerians echoing concerns over government spending in the face of ongoing hardship.
