An Iranian delegation arrived in Zurich, Switzerland, on the morning of June 21 to take part in peace negotiations with the United States.

Heading the delegation are Iran’s Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf and Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi.

Also participating are Deputy Head of Iran’s National Security Council Ali Bagheri Kani and Central Bank chief Abdolnaser Hemmati.

Earlier, key intermediaries facilitating contacts between Washington and Tehran — Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Army Commander Field Marshal Asim Munir — traveled to Switzerland.

Qatar, which is also playing a mediating role in the process, is expected to send its representatives to Switzerland in the coming hours.

The discussions are anticipated to focus on the implementation of the memorandum of understanding that was signed online by the presidents of the United States and Iran on June 17, with mediators taking part in the negotiations.

Technical-level talks between U.S. and Iranian officials are scheduled to take place in Switzerland on June 21 and are expected to define the next phase of diplomatic engagement.

Following the preliminary consultations, both sides are expected to exchange specific proposals aimed at easing tensions and strengthening cooperation under the framework of the existing memorandum.

The negotiations are viewed as an effort to lower friction between the United States and Iran while establishing a roadmap for future bilateral dialogue.
