Tension between Iran and Israel has reached a dangerous level, with both countries launching deadly attacks on each other that have left dozens of people dead and hundreds injured.
The conflict worsened on Sunday, June 15, 2025, as Israel hit Iran’s defence ministry headquarters and other important targets in Tehran, while Iran fired a large number of missiles into Israeli cities like Tel Aviv, Jerusalem, Haifa, and Bat Yam.
According to Israel’s emergency services, at least eight people, including two children, were killed overnight. Around 200 others were wounded. In Bat Yam, near Tel Aviv, rescue teams searched through the rubble of collapsed buildings after four people, including a 10-year-old boy, died in a missile strike.
Three women also died when a building collapsed in the north of Israel, and a woman in her 20s was killed in Haifa after a missile hit a house.
In Iran, journalists from AFP heard explosions in the capital, Tehran, around 2:30 am. Though Iranian officials have not given a new death toll since Friday, Iran’s ambassador to the UN earlier said 78 people were killed and 320 injured in the first wave of Israeli attacks.
The Israeli military said it struck Iran’s nuclear project sites and fuel depots, including the headquarters of the Organization of Defensive Innovation and Research (SPND). They claimed the site was involved in Iran’s efforts to build nuclear weapons.
Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the attacks would continue until every threat from Iran was destroyed.
“We will hit every target of the ayatollah regime,” Netanyahu said.
Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian, in response, warned that any further attacks from Israel would bring “a more severe and powerful response.”
Iran’s Revolutionary Guards also warned that the strikes would continue if Israel did not stop. They confirmed that refuelling bases for Israeli jets were among the targets attacked in retaliation.
Iran’s oil ministry said Israel bombed two oil depots in Tehran, one in the northwestern Shahran area and another in the south of the city. A journalist saw the Shahran depot on fire.
Iran has also cancelled its nuclear talks with the United States, saying it cannot continue negotiations while being attacked.
Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said, “These Israeli attacks are pushing the region into a dangerous cycle of violence.”
Meanwhile, the international community is growing worried. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan warned against a devastating war. UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer said Britain is sending fighter jets to the region as a safety measure but also called for calm.
US President Donald Trump has backed Israel’s actions. But Iran’s President Pezeshkian called America “dishonest” for supporting Israel while pretending to engage in peace talks.
So far, Israeli airstrikes have killed more than 20 top Iranian commanders, including Major General Mohammad Bagheri and the head of the Revolutionary Guards, Hossein Salami. In one province in northwest Iran, local officials said 30 military personnel have died since Friday.
The Red Crescent in Iran said two medics were also killed when an ambulance was hit during the strikes.
As both sides continue to exchange deadly attacks, there are growing fears that this could turn into a full war that affects the entire Middle East.
