The Indigenous People of Biafra has announced the total and permanent cancellation of the Monday sit-at-home across the South-East, effective Monday, February 9, 2026.

In a press statement issued on Sunday by its spokesperson, Emma Powerful, the group said the directive came directly from its detained leader, Nnamdi Kanu.

“The IPOB, under the supreme leadership of Nnamdi Kanu, hereby announces to the entire world that the Monday sit-at-home across the South-East is officially and permanently cancelled with effect from tomorrow, Monday, February 9, 2026,” the statement read.

It added, “This directive comes directly from Onyendu Mazi Nnamdi Kanu himself, who has once again staked everything on the line to ensure that our children return to school every Monday and that our people go about their lawful businesses without fear, intimidation or molestation.”

Powerful stated that with this order, “there is now no need, excuse or justification for anyone to stay at home on Mondays. All markets, schools, offices, transport services and economic activities must resume fully and normally from tomorrow.”

The sit-at-home protest was initially declared in August 2021 to protest Kanu’s rendition and detention. During the exercise, economic and social activities in the region were routinely paralyzed every Monday.

The statement warned that anyone attempting to enforce the sit-at-home from now on is acting against Kanu’s command and will be “confronted until they are completely defeated.”

It also cautioned state governors against intimidating traders or demolishing markets, stating that any market renovation must be done with stakeholders’ consent and adequate temporary trading sites provided.

IPOB called on residents to resume normal activities without fear, declaring that “the era of Monday sit-at-home is over.”
