Three female students of Obong University in Etim Ekpo Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State were on Friday morning kidnapped from their hostel by gunmen suspected to be cultists.
Premiumtimes reports that the state’s police spokesman, Odiko MacDon, disclosed that one of the abducted students was immediately rescued by the police.
MacDon said the rescued student has gunshot wound on her shoulder and has been taken to the hospital for medical attention.
He assured that police officers are already on the trail of the abductors.
The students in a swift reaction embarked on a peaceful protest within the campus this morning to register their grievances to the school’s authority following the incident.
Reports said the Vice Chancellor, Udoudo Ekanemesang, who addressed the students appealed to them to remain calm as the incident is being investigated.
Meanwhile, Etim Ekpo, where the university is situated, is among the four local government areas renowned for cult-related killings and violence in the state.
