The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps [NSCDC] in Osun State have intercepted and arrested 35 youths travelling to Sokoto State.
The Corps Commandant in the state, Adeyinka Oguntuase, said the youths were in two vehicles.
He said the vehicles had left Ilesha on Monday evening but were intercepted by NSCDC operatives on enforcement duty along Osogbo/Ilesha road.
The NSCDC boss said the youths, when asked where they were heading to, said they were travelling to Sokoto state.
He said,
“When they were interrogated, they told us they were heading to Sokoto State. Our men on enforcement duty intercepted their vehicles around 9:30 pm on Monday.
“The vehicles took off from Ilesha. They had planned to move through Ede and link Ogbomoso under the cover of the night. But we intercepted the vehicles and detained them till this morning.”
He said the youths would be returned to the leaders of the Hausa community in Ilesha, stressing that the ban on interstate travel by the government to prevent the spread of coronavirus was still in place.
“I have spoken with the head of Hausa Community in Ilesha. The Seriki was so sad about this development. He told me they have warned their members to cooperate with government regarding ban on interstate travel,” Oguntuase concluded.
