Inter Milan extended their perfect start to the Serie A season with a crushing 5-1 victory over rivals AC Milan in the Derby della Madonnina on Saturday.
Henrikh Mkhitaryan scored twice for the Nerazzurri, while Marcus Thuram, Hakan Calhanoglu and Davide Frattesi also got on the scoresheet.
Rafael Leao pulled one back for Milan,but it was not enough to prevent a heavy defeat.
Inter were dominant from the start and took the lead in the fifth minute through Mkhitaryan.
Thuram doubled the advantage before the break with a fine strike into the top corner.
Milan improved slightly in the second half and Leao gave them hope with a goal on the hour mark.
However, Inter restored their two-goal lead through Mkhitaryan and then added two more goals in the final 10 minutes to complete a comprehensive victory.
The win moves Inter two points clear at the top of the Serie A table, while Milan drop to third.
Inter Milan’s 5-1 victory over AC Milan is their fifth consecutive win in the Milan derby across all competitions.
This is the first time in history that one team has won five derbies in a row.
The Nerazzurri have also now beaten Milan a record 69 times in Serie A and scored a record 256 goals against their city rivals in the competition.
