Inspector killed as police, soldiers clash in Adamawa

A clash between police officers and military personnel in Yola, the Adamawa State capital, resulted in the death of a police inspector identified as Jacob Daniel.

The incident, which occurred in the early hours of Wednesday, raised speculations about an attack on the Adamawa State Police Command Headquarters.

It was reported that military personnel, heavily armed while accompanying a patient to the Police Clinic in Jimeta, Yola, were denied entry, leading to an attack on the police headquarters.

The Adamawa State Police Command confirmed the clash and the unfortunate death of Inspector Jacob Daniel.

CP Afolabi Babatola, the Commissioner of Police, issued a press release, stating that the conflict originated from Target Junction in Jimeta and later escalated to the police headquarters.

The press release, signed by the Command’s spokesperson, SP Suleiman Nguroje, announced an immediate investigation into the matter to ensure justice and peace.

the statement reads in part “The CP warned that attacks on all security officers in the line of duty would no longer be tolerated under whatever guise, as the Command holds the lives of all security personnel sacrosanct, and such unwarranted conflict would be strictly treated in accordance with extant laws.

“The police boss appealed for calm as the top Management of both security agencies are doing everything legally possible to address the situation,”

Brig General Gambo Muhammed, the Commander of the 23 Armoured Brigade, provided a different perspective, stating that his officers and men acted in response to a police shooting and abduction of a soldier.

He clarified that the military’s intention was to rescue their colleague taken away by the police.
