Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, has declared a 24-hour curfew in Mangu Local Government Area of the state, citing continuous breaches of peace and their significant impacts.

The decision comes amid a resurgence of violence in the area, resulting in the loss of lives and millions of naira worth of property.

Governor Mutfwang announced the curfew on Tuesday through a statement issued by his Director of Press and Public Affairs, Gyang Bere.

According to the statement, “Governor Mutfwang took the decision after consultations with the relevant security agencies. He stated that only persons on essential duties are allowed to move within the local government area until further notice.”

The governor, expressing his concern over the deteriorating situation, urged all citizens, particularly residents of Mangu LGA, to adhere to the directive and support security personnel by providing reliable information to restore peace and order in the area.

In the statement, Governor Mutfwang lamented, “Some people are still determined to create an atmosphere of insecurity in the state, despite the government’s efforts to end the activities of terrorist elements.”

Mutfwang extended his sympathy to the families of the victims and the injured, assuring them that the government remains unwavering in its commitment to ensuring lasting peace in the state.

He also promised to review the curfew as soon as the security situation improves
