Israel’s Ambassador to Nigeria, Michael Freeman, has revealed that Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, is open to supporting Nigeria in addressing the killing of Christians through intelligence cooperation.
Freeman made the disclosure on Monday during an interview, where he said Israel was ready to collaborate with Nigerian authorities, especially in intelligence sharing, to curb insecurity and protect Christian communities.
According to the ambassador, Israel would align its support with the priorities of the Nigerian government in tackling security challenges nationwide.
“We will be guided by the Nigerian government on where and how we can partner to address insecurity as a whole within the country,” Freeman said.
He explained that discussions relating to intelligence matters would remain confidential, stressing that the Israeli prime minister had already clarified Israel’s stance on the issue.
“Any communication behind the scenes will remain behind the scenes. When it comes to intelligence and information, it is not something that can be discussed publicly because doing so would defeat the purpose,” he added.
Freeman also noted that Netanyahu’s remarks were not directed solely at Nigeria but were made in the broader context of the safety of Christians around the world.
“He spoke about Christians across the world, not just Christians in Nigeria. He also pointed out that Israel is the only country in the Middle East where the Christian population is increasing, and that was the point he was making,” Freeman said.
