The Independent National Electoral Commission has reported a surge in online traffic to its Continuous Voter Registration portal, with over 26,000 visits recorded just hours after the exercise officially began on Monday.
As of 12:35 p.m. on August 18, 2025, the commission disclosed that the CVR platform—www.cvr.inecnigeria.org—had received 26,255 hits.
In a statement shared via its official X handle, INEC said, “Hits on the Continuous Voter Registration portal (cvr.inecnigeria.org) climb to 26,255 as at 12.35 pm today, Monday 18th August 2025. Register Now.”
Announcing the commencement of the nationwide exercise, the commission stated that “in-person registration will take place at all its 37 state offices and 774 local government area offices nationwide, to ensure easy access for prospective voters.”
While the online pre-registration is now active, INEC confirmed that the physical phase of the registration will begin across the country on August 25, 2025.
The electoral body noted that the exercise is open to Nigerians who have recently turned 18 and have never registered, as well as those seeking to update their voter information, transfer to a new polling unit, or replace a lost or damaged Permanent Voter Card (PVC). “The CVR exercise is open to new voters aged 18 and above, those who wish to collect or transfer their Permanent Voter Cards, and individuals who need to replace lost or damaged PVCs,” INEC stated.
INEC also issued a warning against multiple registrations, cautioning that offenders may face legal action.
To encourage full participation, the commission urged citizens to take advantage of the exercise. For inquiries or support, Nigerians can contact the INEC call centre at 0700-CALL-INEC (0700-2255-4632) or use the short code 4632.
Reiterating its commitment to inclusive democratic processes, INEC assured the public of its determination to provide all eligible citizens the opportunity to register ahead of the forthcoming elections.
