INEC expands CVR to all wards in Kebbi

The Independent National Electoral Commission in Kebbi State has announced plans to expand the Continuous Voter Registration exercise to all wards and registration areas across the 21 local government areas of the state.

The Resident Electoral Commissioner, Alhaji Abubakar Sarkin Pawa Dambo, made this known during a stakeholders’ meeting on the resumption of Phase Two of the CVR exercise in Kebbi State.

Dambo explained that the second phase of the registration exercise commenced on January 5, 2026, at INEC local government offices and the commission’s state headquarters.

According to him, “it is part of civic duties of all eligible Nigeria citizens to register and get their PVC from the INEC in order to participate in all electoral activities such as voting on election – day and contesting in electoral positions at various level of governance in the country.

“The exercise will be expanded to reach all the Registration Area Centre/ Wards in each LGA of the State starting from the 2nd of February,2026 to 10th of April,2026 and then back to the LGA Offices and the State headquarters in the last week of the exercise ,which is from 13th April to 17th April,2026”.”

He added that a detailed timetable would be made available to all local government offices to serve as a guide for the exercise.

In his remarks, the Kebbi State Director of the National Orientation Agency (NOA), Mallam Muhammad Nasir Karofi, advised the commission to adopt a rotational, ward-by-ward approach in each local government area to enable wider participation by eligible voters.

Karofi also urged politicians to mobilise all citizens, not just their supporters, noting that it is impossible to predict who will vote for them on election day.

Earlier, the representative of the Emir of Gwandu, the Waziri of Gwandu, Alhaji Abdullahi Umar, commended INEC for convening the meeting and for the ongoing voter registration exercise.

Also speaking, the Kebbi State Commissioner for Information and Culture, Alhaji Yakubu Ahmed, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Alhaji Saliu Al-Kasim Gunabi, informed stakeholders that the ministry had translated the CVR awareness jingles provided by INEC and disseminated them across various media and social media platforms for public awareness.

He assured that the ministry was ready to continue partnering with INEC to ensure the success of the exercise.
On his part, the Chairman of the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) in the state, Alhaji Muhammad Ibrahim, appealed to the commission to make provisions for citizens who may be hospitalised during the registration period.
The meeting was attended by heads of security agencies, representatives of political parties and other key stakeholders in the state.
