INEC deploys 4,000 personnel for Kaduna bye-elections
The Independent National Electoral Commission in Kaduna State is set to deploy over 4,000 personnel for the upcoming rerun polls and by-elections scheduled for Saturday.
The Resident Electoral Commissioner for Kaduna State, Malam Aminu Idris, revealed this during an interview with journalists in Kaduna on Sunday.
According to Idris, the deployment will comprise 3,000 individuals from the National Youth Service Corps and 1,000 INEC staff members.
“The commission projects to have about a total 4,000 staff including about 3,000 had hoc staff with the categories drawn from members of the NYSC as Presiding Officers and institutions like the Kaduna Polytechnic while others would include NYSC and INEC staff.
“So far, we have started with the recruitment and training of ad hoc staff especially those of Supervisory Presiding Officers then to those of Presiding Officers officers and Assistant Presiding Officers.”
Stringent supervision measures have been instituted, with representatives from agencies like EFCC and ICPC, to ensure transparency and curb malpractices such as vote-buying during the elections.
Idris stressed that everyone involved, including INEC staff and corps members, will be held accountable under the law for any electoral infractions.
He also called for collaboration among stakeholders to create a conducive environment for the elections and urged voters to remain vigilant against any attempts to disrupt the process.
The elections will span six constituencies across seven local government areas, with a total of 1,114 polling units and approximately 639,914 registered voters who have collected PVCs set to participate in the process.
