The Independent National Electoral Commission has announced plans to commence a new round of Continuous Voter Registration across 811 centres in Nigeria’s 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
This was disclosed in a statement by INEC National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Sam Olumekun, following the Commission’s regular meeting held in Abuja.
According to Olumekun, the CVR will begin with an online pre-registration phase starting August 18, 2025, while physical registration at designated centres will kick off on August 25, 2025.
“For ease of identification, the commission will deploy an online CVR Live Locator to guide citizens in finding their registration centres nationwide,” he said.
He further stated that both the online and physical registration processes will run concurrently until August 30, 2026. The in-person registration will be conducted from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday to Friday, excluding public holidays, and will be available in all 774 local government offices, state headquarters, and the FCT office.
“The locator will go live on August 17, 2025, and can be accessed via https://cvr.inecnigeria.org/locator,” Olumekun added.
INEC has also uploaded a 38-page document on its website containing the full list of the 811 physical registration centres, including addresses. Dedicated telephone lines will be provided in each state to help citizens with inquiries related to the exercise.
“The procedure for both the online and in-person registrations remains unchanged from the 2022 exercise. We will also release detailed information and video guides next week,” he noted.
On the issue of political party formation, Olumekun revealed that the commission has received eight additional letters of intent from groups seeking registration as political parties, bringing the total number of applications to 151.
“Details of these latest requests, including proposed names, acronyms, logos, addresses, and interim leadership, have been uploaded to our official platforms,” he said. “The commission has begun shortlisting associations that meet the requirements to proceed to the application stage. More information will be released after the 16 bye-elections scheduled for August 16.”
INEC reaffirmed its commitment to transparency and assured the public that it will continue to provide timely updates on its operations and activities.
