The Independent National Electoral Commission has assured voters in the Federal Capital Territory that the Area Council election will begin at 8:30am as scheduled.
The Head of Department, Voter Education and Publicity, FCT INEC, Samuel Bassey, gave the assurance on Friday during an interview on Arise Television.
The FCT Area Council election is slated for February 21, 2026 (today), with INEC declaring its readiness to conduct elections that are free, fair and credible.
“I guarantee and assure FCT voters that the polls will commence at 8:30am as stipulated,” he said.
He explained that election materials and personnel were deployed overnight to avert delays at polling units.
Bassey added that the proactive steps were designed to substantially curb late commencement and ensure adherence to the approved timetable.
The FCT INEC HOD of Voter Education and Publicity further stated that the measures introduced had significantly addressed, if not completely eliminated, the issue of delayed commencement.
