INEC adjourns Bayelsa poll collation after announcing six LGA results

The Independent National Electoral Commission has announced the adjournment of the collation of results for the Bayelsa State Governorship Election held on November 11, 2023.

The collation process will resume on Monday noon after results from six of the eight local government areas have been compiled.

Prof Faruq Kuta, the Vice Chancellor of the Federal University Of Technology, Minna, and the state Returning Officer, revealed the decision to adjourn the exercise on Sunday night.

The collated results so far are from Kolokuma/Opokuma, Ogbia, Yenegoa, Sagbama, Nembe, and Ekeremor local government areas, with Brass and Southern Ijaw yet to be accounted for.

Sixteen political parties sponsored candidates for the election in Bayelsa, with the main contenders being Governor Duoye Diri of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Timipre Sylva of the All Progressives Congress.

Timipre Sylva, a former Minister of State For Petroleum Resources and ex-governor of the state, is the APC candidate.

He previously served as Bayelsa governor from May 2007 to April 2008 and later between May 2008 and January 2012.

Meanwhile, governorship polls also took place in Imo and Kogi states on Saturday. In Imo, Governor Hope Uzodimma of the APC emerged victorious, defeating Samuel Anyanwu of the PDP and Nneji Achonu of the Labour Party, among other opponents.

As the collation process continues on Monday, the results from the six local government areas announced so far are as follows:
