In-laws beat daughter’s ex-husband to death in Niger

Mallam Umar Tasiu, a man who had separated from his wife, was allegedly killed by his former in-laws when he visited his children in their house in Minna, Niger State.
According to Daily Trust, a neighbor who spoke anonymously, said Tasiu was tied and whipped to death by his former wife’s relatives who did not want him to see his children.
His body was brought back to his house on Saturday night and buried on Sunday morning.
However, the police gave a different account of the incident, saying that Tasiu died at the IBB Specialist Hospital, Minna, after being attacked by city hoodlums and sustaining severe injuries.
The police spokesman, DSP Wasiu Abiodun, said the case was under investigation and efforts were being made to arrest the suspects.
“On 22/10/2023 at about 0800hrs a case of suspected culpable homicide was reported at the GRA Division; that on 21/10/2023 at about 2300hrs, one Umar Tasiu of Angwan Daji was attacked by hoodlums in Minna and he was inflicted with severe injuries. He was rushed to the IBB Hospital, Minna, where he gave up the ghost. The case is under investigation and effort is ongoing to arrest the suspects,” he said.
