It’s funny to know that what gives you pleasure could also lead to untimely death. It’s not something most of us want to think about because sex should give pleasure not be a death trap.

However, there have been cases were sex can lead to conditions that can kill.

These situations are rare, but it’s not harmful to learn about them so you can reduce your risk.

Here are a few ways this can happen.

1. SEXUALLY TRANSMITTED DISEASE

Sexually transmitted infections are infections that are passed on during unprotected sex with an infected partner.

This includes vaginal, anal or oral sex. Some STIs can be passed on by just skin-to-skin contact.

The deadliest STI is human immunodeficiency virus or HIV, which causes AIDS or acquired immune deficiency syndrome.

Although there are antiretroviral drugs which can help control the disease and prolong your life expectancy, however, those drugs may not be affordable and most people die some years of being infected

2. SEX DRUGS

Sex drugs is another way that people die because the drugs sometimes have an adverse effect on the body’s system.

Healthcare professionals usually advise consumers not to purchase or use Viagra, a product promoted for sexual enhancement.

Some medicines can cause unwanted or dangerous effects when used with Viagra unknown to the user.

3. INFIDELITY

It is very interesting to know that infidelity or having sex is one of the silent killers in either relationships or marriage.

When your having sex with other people asides your partner it could lead to the affected person takings drugs that will kill him or her.

According to studies men who were unfaithful were significantly more likely than those who were faithful to experience severe or fatal cardiac events during sex.

4. CARDIAC ARREST

Cardiac arrests that occur during sex are more deadly than those that occur during other kinds of physical activity, new research presented at the European Society of Cardiology (ESC) Congress 2017 found.

A cardiac arrest is when your heart suddenly stops pumping blood round your body, commonly because of a problem with electrical signals in your heart.

When your heart stops pumping blood, your brain is starved of oxygen. This causes you to fall unconscious and stop breathing.

5. MEDICAL CONDITIONS CAN INCREASE RISK

You may have heard about someone dying during sex. These cases are rare and usually, are related to a pre-existing condition. The American Journal of Cardiology states that sexual activity triggers about one per cent of heart attacks, usually when a heart problem is already present.

You should avoid sex if you suffer from angina, uncontrolled hypertension, arrhythmias, cardiomyopathy (weak heart muscle), advanced heart failure, or if you’ve had a heart attack in the last two weeks.
