Gunmen launched a terrifying attack on Senator Patrick Ndubueze, representing Imo-North senatorial district (Okigwe zone), during the early hours of Monday, February 12.

The assailants invaded the senator’s residence at Umualumoke, resulting in the tragic death of one of his police orderlies.

The Imo state police command spokesman, Henry Okoye, confirmed the incident, stating that the state commissioner of police, Aboki Danjuma, has set up a tactical team to go after the attackers.

A source close to Senator Ndubueze gave details of the attack highlighting how the gunmeny stormed Ndubueze’s residence at Umualumoke and killed a policeman working for him.

The senator managed to escape unharmed, but the loss of his orderly was a grievous blow.

The source expressed concerns about the deteriorating security situation in Okigwe, mentioning a recent incident at the Correctional Service where prisoners were set free after the killing of a police inspector and the abduction of the center’s officer.

“Okigwe has become a war zone where no one is saved. We are living in total fear. Most of our youths have run away for fear of being killed. Our security agencies are not doing enough to combat crimes in the state. Yet, there are so many of them (security men) in this area,” the source lamented.

Senator Patrick Ndubueze, currently serving as an APC senator, won the National Assembly elections on February 25, 2023.
