Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodinma, has announced a decisive end to the era of illegal land transactions and racketeering in the state.
He made this declaration on Saturday in Owerri during the graduation ceremony of 10,000 participants from the third cohort of the state’s digital empowerment initiative, Skill Up Imo.
The governor emphasized that the initiative is part of a broader vision to position Imo as a leader in the 21st-century digital economy.
“From the very beginning of this administration, we made it clear that our dream is to reconstruct, rehabilitate, and recover Imo State,” Uzodinma stated.
“And that it will not be a mere physical construction of infrastructure. What will be more important is equipping our people, especially our young people, with the tools, knowledge, and access they need to compete and thrive in a fast-changing world,” he added.
During the event, the governor unveiled a digital application designed to streamline interactions between the government and citizens. He explained that the platform would eliminate the need for intermediaries and minimize delays and confusion in official processes.
“The digital app we are launching today allows you to interface with the government without intermediaries, without delay, and without confusion,” he said.
“Through the app, you can verify land records, process your documentation, pay your taxes, track applications, and access other services.”
Highlighting the app’s impact on land administration, the governor made it clear that the days of manipulating land records or claiming government property illegally were over.
“The issue of land racketeering or claiming government land as your own, or going to the bank to verify who the land owner is before loans are given, is over. All these can be done on your telephones and laptops from wherever you are,” Uzodinma stated.
