The Imo State Police Command has launched an investigation after a viral video showed some officers allegedly wearing Vikings confraternity insignia while on duty in Owerri.

The video was first shared by an anti-cultism advocacy page, Naija Confra, which accused the officers of “openly disgracing the Nigerian Police Force by engaging in cult activities.”

In its post on Friday, the group claimed that the officers were seen wearing Vikings (DNKI) berets and caps, describing the confraternity as one of Nigeria’s most violent cult groups.

“These are police officers in Owerri, Imo State, openly disgracing the Nigerian Police Force by engaging in cult activities,” the group wrote. “They are boldly wearing Vikings berets and caps. These same officers are often used to kill rivals during cult clashes.”

The post sparked public outrage on X and Facebook, with many users demanding immediate action from the authorities.

Responding to the video, the Imo State Police Command confirmed that the Commissioner of Police, Aboki Danjuma, had ordered a full investigation into what it described as an “unacceptable display of unprofessionalism.”

The statement, signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Okoye Henry, read, “The Commissioner of Police strongly condemns the conduct as unethical and unbecoming of police officers. He has ordered a thorough investigation and assured that the officers involved will face serious disciplinary measures in line with police regulations.”

The police command reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining professionalism and rebuilding public trust, promising that the outcome of the investigation would be made public.
