The African Democratic Congress has lost its Deputy Publicity Secretary in Imo State, Hon. Ugochimereze Chinedu Asuzu, who reportedly slumped and died on Wednesday morning.

Asuzu, well known as the convener of Ikoro Ndigbo and a strong voice in Igbo cultural advocacy, was described by the party as “a man of uncommon intellect, conviction, and service.”

In a statement signed by the State Publicity Secretary, Chief MacDonald Amadi, the ADC said Asuzu’s death was a huge blow not only to the party but also to the wider Nigerian society.

A native of Umuma Isiaku in Ideato South Local Government Area, Asuzu held degrees in Theology and Political Science and was working on a doctorate before his passing.

Beyond politics, he was a theologian, entrepreneur, writer, and cultural advocate. He founded the Igbo Intelligentsia Renaissance, a platform that promoted cultural renewal and intellectual engagement. He also created and led I Stand With ADC, a coalition group that mobilised citizens to support democracy.

Asuzu, a former chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), was widely respected as a prolific writer, public affairs commentator, and visiting lecturer.

The ADC statement further described him as “a loving husband, devoted father, and mentor who inspired many in both religious and secular circles.”

It added, “The passing of Chief Asuzu is an irreplaceable loss to his family, the ADC family, and the larger Nigerian society.”

The party said burial arrangements would be made public later.
