Nigerian music star Tiwatope Omolara Savage, popularly known as Tiwa Savage, has boldly claimed that her musical talent outshines that of Nigeria’s famed ‘Big 3’ — Davido, Wizkid, and Burna Boy.
In a recent interview with The Beat 99.9 FM in Lagos, Tiwa weighed in on the ongoing debate surrounding the possible addition of a fourth artist to the ‘Big 3’ category.
The trio, widely recognized as leaders in the Nigerian music scene, are collectively referred to as the “Big 3.”
However, discussions have emerged about expanding this elite group, with suggestions including Tiwa Savage, Rema, Asake, and others.
When asked about her thoughts on joining this group, the host questioned, “Do you feel like you’ve to be part of the ‘Big 3’ or even ‘Big 4’ conversation? How do you feel about that?”
Responding with confidence, Tiwa Savage remarked, “Don’t get me started. If we are to go talent for talent, mic for mic, I am the big 1. If you take off the numbers [streams], and whatever you want to judge the big whatever with, you can’t see me on the mic. But again, it [the ranking] is not based on that [musical talent].”
Tiwa’s assertion highlights her belief that her raw talent, beyond streaming numbers and metrics, makes her stand out in Nigeria’s music landscape.
Her statement adds a new layer to the conversation surrounding Nigeria’s top musical artists and their influence both locally and globally.
